The plasticity of the vestibulo-ocular reflex VOR : a

The vestibulo-ocular reflex has five components: a receptor that receives the stimulus, an afferent pathway, a central nervous system relay, an efferent pathway, and an effector that responds with a reaction. So, let’s use an example - let’s say that you turn your head slightly to the right. This is our stimulus. This reflex is called the vestibulocular reflex (VOR), and it is continually sending afferent neural signals to the cortex as the head changes position. When the head moves, the cortex sends signals to the ocular muscles to stabilize the eyes to ensure the best vision; the eyes move in the opposite direction of the head movement.

Vestibulo ocular reflex

vestibulo-ocular reflex nystagmus or deviation of the eyes in response to stimulation of the vestibular system by angular acceleration or deceleration or when the caloric test is performed. The ‘ear to eye’ connection is known as the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). The VOR has a critical role of keeping the eyes still during head motion. This is known as gaze stability.

Bilateralt bortfall av horisontell vestibulo-okulär reflex: Ett tidigt

Physiology Being an involuntary action or response, such as a sneeze, blink, or hiccup. Objectives: 1) To compare the incidence of elevated visually enhanced vestibular‐ocular reflex (VVOR) rotational gain during rotational chair testing in a normal control group versus a group of patients diagnosed with migraine vestibulopathy; 2) to discuss the possible application of VVOR gain during rotational chair testing for diagnosing migraine vestibulopathy. Unlike the vestibulo-ocular reflex, the optokinetic reflex does not require the sensing of balance changes… only visual changes. So if you don’t see anything, like in the dark or if your eyes are closed, then you don’t have optokinetic nystagmus.
